Alvarez’s interest in the design of systems and processes has led him to the ceramic extrusion technique. Like squeezing ceramic through the textured tube, this process is traditionally employed for serial production. By way of challenging our expectations of machine manufacture, Alvarez has adapted the process to create one-off forms. For him, the unpredictable accumulation of material makes each piece unique.
