At Design Miami/Basel 2010, Gallery Libby Sellers presented 'Branches', an immersive digital installation by Simon Heijdens, a leading figure of a new pioneering generation of designers who are moving beyond traditional product and furniture design.
As an antidote to the immutable and unresponsive built environment, Heijdens imposes bespoke software programming and various sensors to natural processes, creating 'living digital organisms'. Heijdens' plant forms matured and grew like a canopy spreading over the ceiling in response to externally monitored information - be that the shifting weather conditions outside or the periodic movements inside the room.
