Gallery Libby Sellers is pleased to announce a solo-exhibition of new works by Anton Alvarez. The exhibition's title pays homage to the 1979 hit rap by Sugarhill Gang and perfectly encapsulates both the energetic spirit of these new works and Alvarez's background in graffiti art.
Ever since his successful collaboration with the gallery for Design Miami/Basel 2013, Alvarez has been devising a new body of work that celebrates his distinct and idiosyncratic design approach. With a background in cabinet making, interior architecture, craft and design, coupled with his inquisitive, playful mind and strong personality, Alvarez certainly has a diverse skill set upon which to build. Wrapper's Delight will consist of over twenty new pieces, all produced with Alvarez's Thread Wrapping Machine. For this new collection Alvarez has thrown open the opportunities afforded by the machine to incorporate paint and other medias to both bind the works together, while also injecting some chaos into his ordered craft.
To compliment this exhibition Siegfried Contemporary, a private project space in Notting Hill Gate, will be hosting an installation of Alvarez's work - available to view by appointment.
This exhibition will be supported by Iaspis, The Swedish Arts Grants Committee's International Programme for Visual Artists.
