A series of Simon Hasan's Industrial Makeshift leather vessels have been purchased by the Gewerbe Museum, after having been included at the Swiss museum's exhibition 'Skin to Skin' which focused on the qualities of skin within art, design, architecture and medicine.
The pieces were part of Hasan's Industrial Makeshift project of 2010, in which the designer explored the challenges found in global systems of manufacturing, supply and consumption through the creation of 400 handcrafted objects sold through a customised vending machine. These bottles and cans were created using the medieval technique of 'Cuir Bouilli', which rejects the pliable qualities of leather in favor of a more atavistic approach to the material, and which has for long been associated with Hasan's groundbreaking practice.
