Anton Alvarez's 'Thread Wrapping Architecture' pieces are to be featured in a solo exhibition at the Steneby Konsthall, Sweden.
In its scale, Alvarez’s Thread Wrapping Architecture represents a new path for the designer. “Furniture and design objects are something that you can observe from the outside – you surround the piece. Architecture is something that you can enter – instead of being outside of it you can go under it and become part of it. For me that’s how I see the difference.” The addition of textiles into the thread wrapping process is also a recent development, which include patches of fleecing, wool and velvet wrapped in coloured polyester threads. “With fabric I can start shaping the pieces in another way. The fabric allows me to make smoother shapes rather than square transitions.”
