Henrietta Thompson interviews Simon Heijdens about his Perrier-Jouët commission 'Phare No. 1-9', which launched at Design Miami/ in December 2013 before transferring to its permanent home at Maison Perrier-Jouët in Épernay, France. Taking as his inspiration the relationship between art nouveau drawings and maths and geometry, and in the 19th century artists’ fascination with nature in an industrialised age, Heijdens created a way to write and draw in water using light. As Thompson writes, Heijdens "harnesses the power of nature and translates it via digital media into heart-stoppingly poetic installations".
